Tom Vaclavicek

  • Tom Vaclavicek served with the Fairfax County police for twenty-six years before retiring as a Second Lieutenant. He first earned his law Enforcement Instructor certification in 1992, and he has been teaching ever since. Although his experience and training began with a firm foundation in patrol functions, he began working intelligence for Fairfax’s Civil Disturbance Unit in 1999, and became heavily involved in counter terrorism following September 11, conducting extensive analytical work as well as active case work involving terrorism for over eleven years. He spent over six years conducting Red Team training exercises to increase counter terrorism capabilities in the public and private sector. Since 9-11, he has provided terrorism related training for agencies such as Fairfax County, Montgomery County, US Park Police, Amtrak Police, Pentagon Police, Virginia State Police, Norfolk Police, Stafford County, US State Department, US Department of the Interior, and a host of other agencies. He has recently served as a guest instructor at George Mason University. He also worked with the Virginia Governor’s Department of Emergency Preparedness as a lead instructor in its Critical Infrastructure Protection Program. He has collaborated on training programs with agencies as diverse as the Department of Homeland Security, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, and the nation of Qatar. With over 23 years as a trainer and over fifteen years of experience in counter terrorism, combined with an extensive knowledge of police patrol operations he is an excellent instructor for law enforcement at all levels
